Connected skies: solo series challenge is a project to challenge myself to compose six new solo works of about ten mins each in length between October 2020 to May 2021, with each being digitally performed in a monthly virtual event from 2021.

New works for double bass, cello, flute with glissando head joint, accordion, percussion and mezzo soprano will be written. In addition to digital concerts, this project will include blogs, digital pre-concert talks and interactive Q&A sessions, giving us a chance to share our process in this continuing challenging and strange times.

Following the digital pre-concert presentation and digital concert of new piece for solo accordion Enclosing skies, please join Angela and Kamila for a live Q&A.

To join the Q&A please sign up free via our eventbrite event

Programme note:

Enclosing skies is the third piece in the Connected skies collection of solo pieces. All the pieces are reflective of the difficult times of 2020, drawing on a poem authored by Angela Elizabeth Slater as well. Enclosing skies explores the range of the accordion and its timbre, exploring the huge range that the accordion achieve alongside exploring the sounds of cluster chords. These exploration reflects the feeling of our world shrinking during the pandemic in one respect and expanding out through technology in another.

When the sky enclosed around me
Shrinking ever smaller
I found woven half dreams
fractured in spaces inbetween
which ache and scream
I tried to shut the noise out
but it echoed right back at me
